Platform Statement:

I am running for the position of Vice President because I see the person in this position as the critical communications link in the organization. The Council is where the plans and policies articulated by the Board of Directors develop the flesh and muscle that the rest of the academic world sees as NACADA. The Vice President needs to be a good listener, a facilitator, an advocate, and a mediator. I have experience fulfilling all of these roles. I believe I can function effectively at the intersection of discussion between the divisions and the Board of Directors. I am excited at the possibility of serving NACADA in this capacity.

My goal for the position is to advance NACADA's strategic plan. My personal areas of interest are

  • Diversity - working creatively to diversify the face of NACADA and making all academic advising professionals feel welcome in the organization;
  • Assessment - encouraging assessment initiatives so advisers are speaking the language of faculty and administrators;
  • Professional development - better serving students by providing leadership and educational opportunities for advisers and partnering with other professional academic organizations to care for students more holistically.
