Statement:
- Highlight
your involvement in this unit that will help you in leading this
unit. What roles have you played in this unit thus far?
I
was invited to be a member of the Steering Committee after my
presentation was selected as "Commission Sponsored" in 2001. Since
that time, I have supported the commission leadership as well
as evaluated national conference presentation proposals for commission
sponsorship from 2002-2005. I have attended and contributed to
all Commission meetings at the national conference
from 2002-2005.
-
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit
and the Association?
I
see two specific areas of new and continued focus for the Advising
Administration Commission.
- Further
the new NACADA president's initiative to mentor new advising
professionals to focus on the needs of new professionals in
advising administration. (supports NACADA Strategic Plan Mission
4)
- Strengthen
Commission participation in the annual Administrator's Institute.
(supports NACADA Strategic Plan Mission 1)
-
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position
or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
NACADA
has been a foundation for developing my professional career, first
in advising and now in administration. I attended the "pilot"
Advising Administrators Institute in 2000 and the Summer Institute
in 2003. Attending every NACADA national conference since 1991,
I have truly experienced the influence of the association and
want to be a contributing part of that influence for future advisors
and advising administrators. Through the Advising Adminisistration
Commission there is an opportunity to serve the organization in
the area that is of special relevancy to me at this time in my
career.
-
Provide any additional comments or information regarding your
past experiences and qualifications that relate to your candidacy
for this leadership position.
I
have a passion for working with college students as well as supporting
new advising professionals and believe that as chair of the Advising
Administration Commission I can further advance the workings of
the commission to support its members. With over 25 years of
student services experience and 10 years of academic advising
administrative experience in addition to various institutional
committee assignments, leadership experiences, and continuing
education participation, I feel qualified for this position.
When an opportunity is presented, it's both a privilege and professional
responsibility to serve an organization which has continuously
supported one's career. I appreciate your support.
