Platform Statement:

Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit.  What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

A wise person once said "honesty is the key to really knowing someone." I could not agree with this more. In terms of previous involvement with the Exploratory/Undeclared Students Commission, I have attended a meeting. I know that does not stand out as anything brilliant or great but I believe it is a wonderful thing.

In this particular commission, there were 15 people present in the room for the commission meeting. 15 people!  At a conference the size of NACADA this last year in Baltimore, it is unacceptable to have this many people present for a meeting. If we are going to accomplish more as an organization (NACADA), these commissions and the leadership within them are going to have to step-up and have an impact during the conference.

While I have not done this yet, it is my goal and my desire.

What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

There are three goals I feel are important for the Undecided & Exploratory Students Commission. First of all, I believe we have to focus on broadcasting "Track" sessions for advisors present at the conference who are primarily interested in sessions from particular commissions. So often people get through half of the conference before they realize certain sessions are catered for specific areas of advising.

Two, I would like to be a big part in suggesting to have a Commission Fair much later in the day so the commissions have the opportunity to grow more and thus accomplish a bit more.

And finally, I would like to make better use of the list-serve through NACADA for the Undecided & Exploratory Students Commission. As a member for the past year, I have yet to receive any information regarding a list-serve and feel it is a tool that would be a huge benefit to the commission.

Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

As I stated above, I have a passion to make a difference and influence lives. It is what makes me tick. NACADA is a wonderful organization and I truly believe my leadership has the potential to provide an impact for not only this commission but NACADA as a whole.

Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

I have a desire to succeed and a desire to do what is best for NACADA and the Exploratory/Undeclared Students Commission. We are very fortunate to have a position in our jobs where we can make an impact in student’s lives each and every day. I want this commission to have that same opportunity during conferences and throughout the year with our colleagues. Thank you for reading through and I would appreciate any consideration for this position.
