Annual Meeting – Baltimore, Maryland
Attendees: Kathie Sindt
(Region 2), Meredith Gerber (Region 3), Alison Hoff (Region 5),
Brett McFarlane (region 8), Avi Rosensweig (Region 9), and Katie
Davis (Chair)
Guest: Bobbie Flaherty
Absent: Representative
from Regions 1, 4 and 10
No representation exists
for Regions 6 and 7
Current and new members
were introduced around the table. Region 1 representative Eileen
Steeples was presenting at the time of the committee meeting and
could not attend. region 4 representative Jennifer Humber was attending
a pre-conference workshop and was unable to attend. Patty Shaw,
Region 10, was the only committee member not attending the annual
conference this year. We hope she will join us in Chicago in 2008.
Committee decisions included
the following:
1. Need for the
MCS Committee booth:
The committee decided
to keep the MCS booth because it now has a recognition factor. The
volume of hard-copy job announcements that are dropped off at the
booth is growing. The committee will request two additional tables
for future annual conferences to accommodate these announcement
handouts and additional seating for those wishing to spend some
time looking through the Position Announcements notebook. The committee
also will explore the use of a bulletin board and display at the
annual conference to promote the committee's services.
The MCS booth needs to
be kept separate from other booths (exhibitor, seminar evaluation,
and hospitality) to maintain the confidentiality of any member wishing
to have a CV/resume or cover letter critiqued. This was problematic
at the 2007 conference and took some time to get resolved.
2. Promoting the MCS Committee:
A review of the MCS portion
of the NACADA website needs to be undertaken in order to assess
what changes could be made to make the MCS Committee more visible
to members.
Region 2 and Region 3
will have a mini-MCS booth available at their meetings in 2008.
A regional Position Announcements binder will be created by each
representative for use at the meeting. It was suggested that stickers
be available to members that read "I'm Looking" or "I'm
Seeking."
3. Career Corner articles:
The following MCS committee
members will author the Career Corner article for the Academic
