NACADA Advisory Board Chair Overview

Leadership Opportunity — Advisory Board Chair

  • appointed by the President-Elect
  • serves a 2-year term
  • Prior to filling this role, the individual must have completed a full term as a member of the respective advisory board.

Advisory Board Chairs are appointed by the President-Elect and provide leadership for Advisory Boards whose function is to provide the Executive Office with guidance and recommendations concerning the conduct of NACADA programs and the development of resources. Advisory Board Chairs report to the Executive Office.

Major Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the various activities of the advisory board and lead advisory board meetings during the Annual Conference.
  • Work with the Executive Office staff to identify issues that need attention and discussion.
  • Work with the Executive Office and President to identify new members of the advisory board annually.
  • Coordinate communication with the Division Representatives and the Executive Office.
  • Provide written reports to the Board of Directors twice annually.
  • Manage the advisory board web site.

Meetings to attend:

  • Division Leadership meeting at the NACADA Annual Conference
  • Annual advisory board meeting at the NACADA Annual Conference
  • Advisory board or Division meetings via teleconferences

 

Budgets to prepare and monitor:

  • Submit annual budget requests as needed for advisory board activities.

 

Written reports/communications:

  • Communications with members— Announcements are sent to advisory board members by e-mail as needed. A web page, maintained at the Executive Office, is updated through the Advisory Board Chair.
  • Utilize advisory board list serve for discussions, soliciting information and ideas from advisory board members, or communicating information to advisory board members.
  • Submit a post-conference Leadership report after the Annual Conference in the fall in which goals are established for the advisory board and activities planned for the coming year, indicating their relation to the specific missions in the NACADA Strategic Plan.
  • Submit annual Leadership report in the summer to advise the Council and Board of the status of the completion of goals established and activities planned for the advisory board over the past year in relation to the NACADA missions and strategies.
  • Academic Advising Today e-publication — submit short reports about advisory board activities.

 

Resources and Support:

  • Your institution gives approval and provides support to your commitment to this position, including your registration fees and all expenses for the Annual Conference.
  • The NACADA Board of Directors appropriates limited funds towards participation in the annual fall leadership meetings.
  • The Executive Office provides staff assistance for web updates, communications to members, financial management, membership information and statistics, etc.
