Position Description
The Academic College Advisor will provide developmental academic advising for College of Performing and Visual Arts students and students exploring options in the College of Performing and Visual Arts. The successful candidate will also provide support for daily operation of the Academic Advising Office, including responsibilities listed below. Duties
1. Conduct individual and group sessions to provide developmental academic advising for College of Performing and Visual Arts students and other students exploring options in the College of Performing and Visual Arts.
2.Interact regularly with College of Performing and Visual Arts Dean, faculty and staff as well as advising staff from the University College.
3. Conduct individual and group sessions to help students identify and reach personal, occupational, and academic goals.
4. Interpret and administer university policy regarding academic planning and progress.
5. Assist students in the graduation application process and review final applications.
6.Evaluate transfer credits in collaboration with the College of Performing and Visual Arts faculty and the Registrar's office.
7. Provide support for daily operation the Academic Advising Office.
8. Teach one student development related class per semester .
9. Some travel required .
10. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
1. Masters degree in Student Development, Counseling, or closely related field required. Applicants with Masters Degrees in fields related to the advised discipline will also be considered.
2. Strong individual and group communication skills.
3. Ability to learn computer applications quickly.
4. Ability to contribute team efforts to support unit goals and operation .

Responsibilities: Assist in the planning, designing, and management of the operations of the academic advising, career services, and retention units for the institution.
Duties
* Assist in oversight of academic advising - Assist in development and delivery of advising training programs for Aims employees. Develop ongoing advising integration activities with academic departments. Develop effective Performance Evaluation Plans for staff and conduct evaluations in a timely manner. Identify, advise, monitor, and track academically underprepared students who qualify for the Emerging Scholars Program. Produce requested reports. Communicate with various internal and external constituencies regarding academic advising functions, requirements/policies, and needs. Create and update advising materials for written and web publications.
* Supervise retention team - Oversight of grants focusing on Emerging Scholars Program. Facilitate the Academic Improvement Report (AIR). Follow-up with department chairs and academic deans regarding faculty participation and progress with AIR relative to student retention trend data by course and department. Develop effective Performance Evaluation Plans for staff and conduct evaluations in a timely manner. Develop a campaign to inform students about retention services and staff available to them through the Student Achievement and Retention (STAR) initiative. Develop appropriate academic interventions for at-risk students and ensure consistent administration of these services on all campuses. Develop and deliver workshops for students to improve retention status that may include successful study skills, goal setting, test taking techniques, understanding learning styles, and effective communication strategies in collaboration with Student Life and Student Support Services staff.
* Supervise career services team - Assist with budget development and monitoring. Coordinate job, employment, and career fairs. Develop training and presentations. Assist in the evaluation and coordination of career services functions in collaboration with Senior Advisors on all campuses to include ordering materials, securing budget, and training staff on best practices.
* Assessment research & program development - Organize and conduct research studies on advising, career services, and/or retention issues. Assist the Director of the Student Success Center with the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and assessment measurements for advising, career services, and retention initiatives.
* Academic advising of students - Provide academic advising services to students to include, but not limited to: input and retrieve information from Banner, maintain currency on advising information, interpret assessment scores and place students into correct courses, utilize resources to assist students in course selection and career goals, review student files and assign to faculty when appropriate, teach students how to problem solve by identifying alternative options that relate to their life and career goals. Explain financial aid process and connect students to appropriate resources; engage in career planning by explaining the connection between majors, interests/abilities, and career goals. Meet with students who have been identified through the Academic Improvement Report or placed on academic probation/suspension to determine cause of poor academic performance and identify the next proactive step.
Required Qualifications
Masters Degree, with a minimum of two years experience in academic advising or career counseling or retention efforts of at-risk students and one year of supervisory experience in educational setting. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends as needed and travel among Aims Community College locations. Valid Colorado Driver's License and must meet insurability guidelines of the college.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in counseling or related field. Crisis counseling. Community college experience. Higher education teaching experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
