Position Description
The coordinator, academic services in First Year Advising and Exploration provides prescriptive and developmental advising and academic support assistance for fist year students assigned to the office. Each coordinator is assigned a group of advisees that includes students from a specific major, or a group of undeclared students.
Duties
Administrative
* Provide academic advising to assigned group of first year students following a prescriptive and development advising process
* Integrate career development concepts and strategies into the developmental advising process
* Provide advisement to prospective first year students
* Participate in and support FYAE initiatives
* Be responsible for schedule planning and registration assistance sessions of assigned college/majors during freshman orientations
* Maintain collegiality within FYAE
* Provide coordination/leadership to one of the major retention programs within FYAE by providing specialized advising and assisting in project management
Advising Responsibilities
Meet individually or in small group sessions with FYAE advisees as assigned and provide the following support services:
* Assist advisees in establishing appropriate course schedules based on university and college/major requirements, student's interests and abilities, and academic and career goals
* Assist advisees with course schedule planning for their first and second year
* Explain academic policies and procedures
* Help advisees identify academic strengths and weaknesses and strategies that promote student growth and development
* Discuss and clarify with advisees their academic and career goals guiding them through the development of a plan for academic success to include short and long term goals and strategies
* Assist advisees with the use of computer technologies to improve communication of timely academic information and respond promptly to email questions/notes from students
* Provide assistance with the course registration process by guiding advisees through the MyUCF system
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience advising students through all aspects of the first year, including major exploration and establishing connection and strategies for academic success. Experience and participation with providing academic advising during orientation services to first time in college students. Evidence of effective communication skills

Position Description
The Director will provide vision, leadership, and supervision to the office of the First Year Experience (FYE). FYE coordinates the design, administrative oversight, and implementation of comprehensive orientation programs for freshmen and transfer students and their family members. FYE coordinates and implements over 30 orientations for First Time in College and Transfer students and their families. Additionally, the unit provides leadership in the execution of welcome activities, parent program, Freshman Seminar, and the LINK Program. FYE creates opportunities for student success through the establishment of campus wide collaborations and partnerships that impact the transition, persistence, retention and graduation of UCF students. Student Development and Enrollment Services (SDES), supports this full-time, 12-month position. This position and the office of FYE, reports to the Associate Vice President for SDES.
The Director provides oversight, and is responsible for the organizational, administrative, budgetary, supervisory, scheduling, and procedural functions of all aspects of the First Year Experience programs, including: orientation for first and second year and transfer students, the parent program, Welcome Week activities, the Out of State Mentoring Program (OSSM) and the LINK Program.
The Director oversees and manages a budget that exceeds $600,000.
The Director supervises the coordination and implementation of a web-based, virtual orientation program for incoming transfer students.
The Director coordinates the Freshman Seminar course for first year students. This includes selecting and training of faculty, curriculum development, scheduling sections, and registration.
The Director oversees the development of effective publications and materials that communicate the UCF tradition, spirit, and citizen expectations.
The Director supervises an assistant director, two coordinators, all support staff, graduate assistants, and over thirty student leaders.
The Director participates in the assessment and evaluation of all programs; including the development of benchmark's and outcomes.
The Director establishes partnerships and collaborative relations with all members of the UCF community including Cashiers Office, Student Accounts, Aramark and other catering services, SDES offices, Student Union and Arena facilities, and academic colleges.
The Director recommends and assists in the development and implementation of university policies and procedures, which affect the mission of the First Year Experience office.
The Director provides reports and data analysis of programs and initiatives as requested.
The Director serves on division and university committees as required.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidate will have the following:
* Master's degree, preferably in education, student personnel, or related field.
* A minimum of five years of documented experience working with orientation programs for freshman and/or sophomore and transfer students and their families.
* A minimum of two years of unit management and full-time staff supervision.

Additionally, this leader oversees the Peer Mentoring Program for first year students and will work with the Dean of Students to develop additional strategies that will promote student success and completion.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree required; preferably in a STEM related field. Master's Degree strongly preferred.
Minimum Experience/Training: Typically over five years' experience in higher education to include working with college students in a STEM related field, and developing and implementing retention strategies.
