Graduate Student Recruiting Director

Position Description:

GRADUATE RECRUITING DIRECTOR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING The College of Engineering is witnessing a sustained period of growth in its research programs. As our research funding continues to increase and we recruit top researchers into our faculty ranks, a commensurate enhancement in our ability to recruit high-quality graduate students becomes a critical need. To address this need, we are seeking a graduate student recruiting director to develop the vision and plan for orchestrating the marketing of our graduate programs to prospective students, proactively recruiting and retaining high-quality domestic students as well as high-quality international students from targeted institutions.

SALARY STATEMENT: Minimum salary (50% time) is $70,000 FTE

Duties:

The main responsibility for this position is to address the recruitment and retention of high-quality graduate students in the College of Engineering graduate programs. The reporting duty is to the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. The prospective candidate also works closely with the departments' graduate program coordinators. Expected duties include developing and implementing effective marketing strategies to attract graduate students regionally, nationally and internationally; developing systems for recruiting high-quality domestic graduate students; developing graduate student recruiting events; advising/counseling graduate students; creating and coordinating activities for retention of graduate students and their career development; assisting in the development of procedures and external funding of the College of Engineering graduate programs; building relationships with area schools and inter-university contacts; developing and writing educational gr! ant proposals to support the graduate program; investigating research needs and opportunities from companies and institutions.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate degree in Engineering or closely related field; doctorate preferred; background in student affairs, business, science, engineering or related technology fields preferred; experience in higher education, preferably in the areas of academic and career development; strong communication skills and interpersonal and organizational skills; marketing experience; demonstrated commitment to student academic and career development.

Academic Advisors

Position Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks full-time academic advisors for its Academic Advising Center. Applicants must have a master's degree in an area of arts and sciences or in higher education student personnel or administration or a bachelor's degree in arts and sciences with a minimum of two years experience in academic advising or related experience. Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, an empathetic nature and hold standards of high expectations for students of greatly diverse backgrounds. Experience with student databases and degree audit systems is desirable.

Duties:

ACADEMIC ADVISOR (GENERAL): Responsibilities include preparation and interpreting academic audits for current and transfer students, determining degree eligibility, curriculum planning with undergraduates, providing information on college and university policy and participating in orientation programs.

ACADEMIC ADVISOR (ENGLISH): Academic advisor is assigned to the Department of English and assists undergraduates in academic planning for the major, certifying degree completion, and participating in related college and department functions. ACADEMIC ADVISOR (SPANISH, FRENCH, ITALIAN AND PORTUGUESE): Academic advisor is assigned to the Department of Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese and assists undergraduates in academic planning for the major, certifying degree completion, and participating in related college and department functions. Responsibilities include providing information on program requirements and opportunities, college and university procedures, and postgraduate options. Preference is given to applicants with a strong background in a language other than English.

ACADEMIC ADVISOR (NATURAL SCIENCES): Academic advisor will assist undergraduates completing degrees in Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Earth and Environmental Science and Physics by academic planning for the major or curriculum, certifying degree completion, and participating in related college and department functions. Responsibilities include providing information on program requirements and opportunities, college and university procedures, and postgraduate options. Preference is given to applicants with strong background in natural sciences.

Position Description:

The Department of Political Science seeks applications and nominations for the position of academic advisor. This department has over 1,000 undergraduate majors. Under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, this academic professional will advise students about program requirements and opportunities, course selection, and plans after graduation. He or she will work with the department, campus and college administrative units, maintain undergraduate records and files, address student petitions and perform other assigned duties relevant to undergraduate advising and education.

Duties:

Specifically, the academic advisor performs the following duties: Advise majors on curriculum requirements. Assist students with course selection and registration. Review petitions for curriculum changes. Monitor student progress. Advise students on academic opportunities outside the department, e.g. internships, courses, study abroad. Advise students on post-baccalaureate plans such as graduate or professional schools and careers. Maintain records, both paper and electronic on student advising matters.

Required Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have at least one year of advising experience or similar experience and be familiar with advising at the University of Illinois or similar major universities. A master's degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Those holding a Ph.D. are also encouraged to apply. For qualified candidates, the position allows for teaching one or two undergraduate courses per academic year.

The Academic Advisor will report to the Associate Director and provide academic services to new and continuing undergraduate Commerce students. He/she will assist with projects as needed for the New Student Team, Academic Standing Team, and Degree Conferral Team in the Commerce Undergraduate Program Office.

Duties:

* Provide academic advising and administrative support services to continuing and new undergraduate Commerce students.

* Responsible for review of DePaul and transfer institution transcripts.

Regional Director of Advising Services

Position Description:

Provide leadership and direction to regional academic advising efforts, including oversight of campus advising centers. Advising centers provide direction to students in the areas of academic and career advising and transfer services. Provide support to the Vice Chancellors Academic Affairs and Student Affairs in development, maintenance, and interpretation of reports relevant to the use and success of advising services. Work collaboratively with Distance Learning, Diversity Affairs, Workforce and Economic Development (WED), the high school dual enrollment program, and academic school deans and program chairs.

Duties:

  • Manage and direct the academic advising process across the region
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate advising efforts and devise enhancements consistent with enrollment growth patterns
  • Maintain close working relationships with School Deans, Associate Vice Chancellors of Student Affairs, Registrar, and Director of Financial Aid
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate listing of university/college articulation agreements

  • Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and make decisions.
  • Interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle major projects simultaneously are required.
  • Computer literacy and orientation toward creative uses of technology in the delivery of services for students is required.
  • Must possess willingness and an ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in counseling, student personnel, adult or higher education, or other related discipline preferred. Experience in a community college preferred.
