Position Description
The academic advisor will be involved in providing a full range of academic and career exploration services and academic support activities for USP students. This includes advising, teaching, mentoring, and recruiting, as well as developing and implementing special programs.

Duties
Advise undergraduate students enrolled in the Undergraduate Studies Program (including information about academic majors and careers, interpret test results, maintain records, and registration and schedule revisions); develop and implement special programs for exploratory students; and teach a credit course that relates personality; academic majors, and the world of work; participate in recruiting and retention activities.

Required Qualifications
1) Master's degree in student personnel, education, counseling or related field.
2) Two years of academic advising, career counseling, and/or education related experience.
3) Excellent (oral/written) communication skills.

Position Description
The Academic Advising Center of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at UIC seeks two full-time Academic Advisors for the following positions: Pre-Health Professions Advisor, English Advisor. Academic Advisors assist undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the development of their academic and career interests and in the successful completion of their individual programs. The Pre-Health advisor primarily provides guidance to students pursuing baccalaureate and post-graduate programs in various health professions, while the English Advisor assists students majoring in English at UIC. Duties

Required Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with a background or demonstrated interest in either a health-related discipline or the discipline of English. Assist in the administration of probation, suspension, and readmission policies as well as other policies that apply to student advising and academic success.

Monitor academic progress of students at risk and assist them in achieving academic success. Advise students proactively and strive to develop and implement effective intervention strategies. Make appropriate referrals to other University student and support services. Communicate with faculty and other campus offices regarding students in academic distress.

Collaborate with unit head, faculty, the Career Development Office, and other offices to create and assess initiatives to improve the student experience within the unit.

Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of on-campus recruiting events and represent the unit at such events.
