Position Description
South Arkansas Community College is accepting applications for a full time twelve-month Academic Advisor position. The candidate selected will report to the Student Success Counselor and advise potential, currently enrolled, and transfer students of their academic options and plans. This individual must be knowledgeable of academic advising practices which promote student retention; understand first-year experience programs; interpret college assessment and placement scores; and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other departments, faculty, and administration.

Previous work experience in the following student services college environment: participate in new student orientation; work with students experiencing academic distress; work with retention programs (Early Alert); work with special student programs (TAA, WIA, etc.); understand process for assisting student in receiving grants, scholarships and other financial aid - FASFA application; knowledge using Blackboard and other database management systems to assist students.

Position Description
Academic Counselor in the Advising Center of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. This is a 12-month, full-time position with paid vacation and fringe benefits. Responsibilities are primarily in the areas of student advising, retention and recruiting. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, are essential for this position. Prior exposure to the liberal arts is preferred.
Duties
Duties include the counseling and advising of undergraduate students in the areas of course selection, degree requirements, exploration of major and career goals, and adjustment to college life. The counselor will work primarily with freshmen and sophomore students, many of whom are undecided about their major. The Advising Center also assists students who are pursuing an allied health program, who are in academic difficulty and who have general academic questions. Recruiting responsibilities include a complete knowledge of College programs, ability to travel within the region to represent the College at recruiting events, and effective communication skills to address the needs of current and prospective students and their families. The academic counselor will assist with the College portion of the New Student Orientation Program, which includes advising new students, meeting and talking with parents and students about College programs and requirements, and other duties as they arise. Specific duties may change as retention initiatives evolve.

Bachelor's degree with one year of academic advising or related higher education experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree and 2-3 years of academic advising or related higher education experience.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs coordinates and develops student support services and programs and serves as an advocate for student needs across the university community. Position Description
The Executive Director of Academic Advising is responsible for the institutional leadership of academic advising, developing and coordinating a comprehensive advising program incorporating the advising centers in each of the University's five Colleges and the Islander Transition Center (ITC). Duties

Required Qualifications
Master's degree and five years of relevant professional experience in higher education academic advising or equivalent field. Additional education beyond a master's may be considered in lieu of experience. Must have prior experience in managing employees and personnel development. Demonstrated ability to identify, implement and evaluate technology and other tools to support academic advising (ie: online advising, assessment of advising, student tracking, social media, etc.). Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and parents. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a group.
