COUNSELOR FOR VOC TECH PROGRAMS

Galveston College

Position Description:

Supports students in our new vocational technical programs. Position is contingent on funding.

Duties:

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the Voc-Tech Counselor develops and delivers outreach activities designed to recruit and retain students for a variety of vocational technical programs. Position also provides a broad spectrum of counseling, advising, and student support services to prospective and continuing vocational technical program students that incorporate the goals and mission of the College.

Required qualifications:

  • Master's degree with emphasis in Counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel, Social Work or equivalent;
  • Three years directly related experience in student support services including experience in vocational-technical/work force programs and career counseling;
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public and commitment to a team building approach;
  • Skill in facilitating and modeling a quality customer service orientation;
  • Ability to work effectively with ethnic, cultural and diverse student populations;
  • Ability to think "outside the box" to lead and manage change in a positive and inclusive manner;
  • Strong organizational, planning, and marketing skills;
  • Experience in budget development and management;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and the general public in a courteous manner;
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and conduct independent work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Community college or higher education experience;
  • Three to five years business and industry experience;
  • Bilingual;
  • LPC licensure.

Student Success Coordinator - 50393689

Position Description:

The Student Success Coordinator (SSC) will serve the academic, personal, and career needs of assigned student-athletes in both the day and evening programs.

Duties:

The SSC will develop, deliver, and monitor interventions for student-athletes for maintaining NCAA eligibility. He or she must have working knowledge of NCAA guidelines for continuing eligibility and of developing appropriate APR plans. Meetings with students, working in study hall programs, collaborating with coaching staff, compliance officer, course instructors, and other academic support staff, comprise the bulk of the job. Other duties include collecting and reporting data, strategic planning following year-end outcomes, participating in recruiting and information events, and attending team meetings, sporting events, and other honorary events for student-athletes. Evening and weekend work is required.

Required Qualifications:

Two years of experience counseling or advising college student athletes is required. Candidate must have a master's degree from an accredited university in Sports Counseling, Sports Psychology, Sports Management, or a related behavioral science field.

Required skills include the following:

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or diagrammatic form; to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. To deal with nonverbal symbolism in its most difficult phases; to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables; and to comprehend the most abstruse classes of concepts.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY:

Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percent; to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units. Using statistics to apply mathematical operations to frequency distributions, reliability and validity of tests, normal curve, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, chi-square application, and sampling theory.

COMMUNICATIONS ABILITY:

Ability to write reports and essays with proper format, punctuating, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ability to prepare business letters, expositions, summaries, and reports, using prescribed format and conforming to all rules and punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to write journals, speeches, manuals, and critiques. Ability to speak before audiences with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.

Academic Coordinator

College of Arts and Sciences

Position Description:

The College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator.  The position is full-time, twelve-month, and is responsible for the following:

Process graduation applications and transfer course equivalency.  Maintain requirement lists for all majors in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Advise students concerning graduation requirements and transfer course equivalency.  Maintain electronic Student Information System and Degree Audit System.

Duties:

  • Understand all curricula and academic policies for the College of Arts and Sciences. 
  • Review and clear graduation applications for the College of Art and Sciences each semester on a tight deadline.  Maintain the database of all students who have failed to graduate.
  • Evaluate incoming transfer work
  • Complete graduation checks for all 2nd semester Juniors.  Keep curriculum guides up to date for all majors in the College. 
  • Advise students, including transfer credit evaluation, questions about degree requirements, verification from department advising appointments, discrepancy in graduation checks, Green to Gold candidates, and students who have failed to graduate.
  • Serve as primary contact for iSIS issues for the College of Arts and Sciences. Maintain a clear understanding of iSIS security levels.
  • Collaborate with the iSIS Task Force and subcommittees of the Task Force.  Attend all meetings and have a clear understanding of how the College works in order to be a good advocate and representative for the College.
  • Maintain the DARS system.
  • Evaluate all prospective and incoming student athletes transfer credits. 
  • Keep transfer course equivalency up to date from the Kansas community colleges.
  • Maintain and update course pre-requisites in iSIS.
  • Maintain the basic requirement sheet as course changes have been approved.
  • Attend CAPP meetings in the absence of the Assistant Dean and have a clear understanding of University and College policies and procedures. 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required.  Masters degree preferred.  At least one degree in a liberal arts and sciences discipline is preferred.  Experience in university teaching and/or university advising is desirable.
