NACADA Region 8 Award & Scholarship Information
Each award and scholarship have specific criteria and application processes. The awards and scholarships available for 2012 are:
We are pleased to offer these scholarships to our Region 8 Members. Detailed information on the Region 8 Conference is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu. The criteria and applications for these awards and grants are below as is the link to the on-line submission portal.
Instructions for On-Line Submission:
- Enter a password - this can be simple and you can use the same one for other submissions
- Select your Region.
- Then select the award for which you are applying from the "Awards/Scholarship Category" drop down box.
- Be sure to write down your Award/Scholarship Nomination Number and your password, so if you have to stop and come back to the nomination form, you can do so easily! It will also be in your confirmation e-mail.
- Enter the information as it is requested. NOTE: The NOTIFICATION section is for you to list those people who you would want to know if you are selected for this award/scholarship. We would suggest your president/provost, your supervisors, your public relations department.
- You will need to upload some documents. They must be in pdf form. As these are different for each award, please see the Region Awards page for more information before you begin the submission process. you can leave and come back as long as you have not hit the SUBMIT button.

Region 8 Scholarships
Region 8 Scholarship to Region 8 2012 Conference
Seven scholarship packages will be awarded to cover a recipient's annual NACADA membership dues, the regional conference registration and two nights accommodations at the Hilton Portland & Executive Towers hotel.
In addition, 5 more applicants will receive a scholarship that will cover the conference registration fee.
Eligibility:
Anyone in Region 8.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated on the quality of appropriate goals for attendance and a written personal advising philosophy.
Submission Procedure:
- Statement of Goals for Attendance: Please provide a statement regarding the goals you hope to achieve by attending and participating in the Region 8 Conference. Upload this information in PDF format to support the nomination. This document should not exceed two pages.
- Personal Philosophy Statement: Please provide a personal philosophy statement regarding their (nominees) approach to advising and/or advising administration. This document SHOULD NOT exceed two pages..

Region 8 Excellence in Advising Awards
Region 8 Excellence in Advising - New Advisor Award:
Eligibility:
Any new faculty or professional advisor (3 or fewer years) who, early in their career, have demonstrated qualities associated with excellence in academic advising.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor. Such evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Professional practices
- Documented success
- Documented advisor development
Submission Procedures:
- Nomination letter - In this letter, the nominator should summarize the nominee's qualifications and why the individual is being nominated for the award. It is not necessary to address all of the criteria listed, but rather this document should provide the evidence and specific examples that demonstrate the nominee's outstanding performance. Nominators should solicit input from others as they craft their nomination letters and are most welcome to include quotes or comments from colleagues and students. Nomination letter SHOULD NOT exceed three pages.
- Letters of Support - You may include up to two additional letters of support. These letters may come from colleagues, employees, supervisors, or students - anyone who might augment the selection committee's understanding of the nominee. Letters SHOULD NOT exceed two pages single spaced.
- Personal Philosophy Statement - Please provide a personal philosophy statement regarding their (nominees) approach to advising and/or advising administration. This document SHOULD NOT exceed two pages single spaced.

Region 8 Excellence in Advising - Academic Advising Award:
Eligibility:
Experienced faculty or professional advisors who have a demonstrated record of excellence in academic advising.
Criteria:

Eligibility:
Individuals who have exhibited excellence in their primary role as an administrator or director of an academic advising program.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor. Such evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Professional practices
- Documented success
- Documented advisor development

Region 8 Excellence in Advising - Institutional Administrator Award:
Eligibility:
Individuals at the upper level of institutional administration (Presidents, Provosts, Vice Provosts, etc.) who have a demonstrated commitment to advising and advisors on their campuses.
Criteria:
Nominations will be evaluated on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor. Such evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Professional practices
- Documented success
- Documented advisor development
