There is little more rewarding than presenting
at a Annual NACADA conference. Not only do I benefit from the research
and work of putting together the presentation, but I also enjoy
the experience of passing that information along and learn tremendous
amounts from the conference participants who attend my session.
It's a great feeling to know that the work that you do is appreciated
and the information that you present is valued and valuable. I highly
recommend presenting to everyone that I meet - present alone, present
on a panel, - just get out there and share your ideas!
Susan M. Kolls

Presenting at the Annual Conference
has allowed me to share my knowledge and research with others but
more importantly has given me the opportunity to learn from a wide
range of individuals. First year advisors, advising administrators,
experienced advisors, and faculty advisors all have something to
share and bringing them together at individual sessions has allowed
me to expand on my ability to serve students and “borrow” from others. The bottom line is that advising is a very challenging and rewarding profession and one that is always a work in progress.
Blane Harding
Colorado State University
I began presenting at NACADA conferences
because I love learning from other presenters. I realized that others
might be excited to hear about some of the new things we have been
trying on our campus as well. It has been very rewarding to have
peers in my profession express their appreciation for giving them
new tools/ideas to take back to their campus. A major component
of advising is sharing knowledge... whether it's with our students
or with each other!"

Workshop Hints
|
- Pre-conference workshops must be highly participatory sessions. Since these workshops range from two to five hours, presenters must plan for participants to be involved and participate in the session not simply sit and be lectured to on a topic.
- Participants
expect to leave pre-conference workshops with information, materials,
strategies, and ideas that they can take back to their campuses
and use effectively. Pre-conference workshops
should be very hands-on and issue specific with material, activities,
strategies and techniques that the participants can effectively
use in their individual situations. Presenters should come prepared
to answer questions concerning implementation and other issue
specific questions.
- Presenters
should plan varying presentation formats for pre-conference workshops.
Due to the length of pre-conference workshops, presenters should
plan to include some lecture as well as possible small and large
group activities, and a question and answer period.
- Workshops should last the entire time indicated in the registration brochure. Please remember that participants have paid an additional fee to attend your workshop; therefore, it is important that you come prepared with material and information for the entire time period you have been allotted.
- Rooms for
pre-conference workshops are set "classroom style"
(rows of long narrow tables with chairs). There will be a head
table, chairs, and either a tabletop or floor podium in the front
of the room.
- Enrollment
is initially limited to 40 -- if your workshop
reaches the limit, the NACADA Executive Office will contact you
to see if you are willing to accept more participants. Do not
ask for the enrollment number to be limited to a lower number;
we are trying to accommodate as many of our attendees as possible.
- Participant List -You may contact the Executive Office one to two weeks prior to the conference to request a list of attendees who have signed up for your workshop.
- A Participant List of persons signed up for your session will be available at the conference registration desk when you check in. Check at the "New Registrations" counter for a copy of the Participant List.
- Uploads -- Pre-conference workshops DO NOT upload their handouts to NACADA's web page.
