The
Assessment Institute gave participants the opportunity for genuine
collaboration, with other institutions or within their own. We brought
a team from Minnesota State – Mankato, and benefited from
the synergy that occurred. We continue to work on our campus advising
assessment plan that, without conference participation, would not
be nearly as comprehensive or developed. Workshop leaders’
expertise, tailored levels of instruction, and opportunities to
collaborate made this an outstanding institute for anyone interested
in doing advising assessment.

The NACADA
Assessment Institute proved to be one of the most useful and inspiring
conferences I have attended. The break-out groups had dynamic, knowledgeable
facilitators, the activities were engaging and practical, and the
result for our institution was a fresh approach to advising training
that was well-received by our faculty.

San
Antonio has the two biggest tourist attractions in Texas. Number
one is the Alamo, and the runner up is the River Walk.
The
Alamo speaks for itself!
The River
Walk, bordering the San Antonio River, is six metres below street
level, its cobblestoned paths wind past stone bridges and under
Bald Cypress trees up to 250 years old. At night it glitters, and
the cafes, bars and restaurants are packed with people bent on pleasure.
Set aside 30 minutes for a sightseeing boat tour. They run 9:00
a.m.-9:00 p.m. year round.
Most
of the major attractions can be seen by foot or public transit.
The Alamo and the River Walk area are only a few blocks apart. A
bargain, at 50 cents a ride, are the VIA Trolleys, designed to resemble
old-fashioned streetcars. Four lines crisscross downtown, stopping
at or near most hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, shops
and galleries.
Be
sure to visit the Market Square (El Mercado), especially of interest
will be the Mi Tierra Café and Bakery. It's open 24 hours (strolling
mariachi musicians play in the evening) and decorated year-round
with Christmas lights.
