Hello
all. Please read on regarding a positive change in the conference
format that heavily includes commissions. It is my expectation that
all commissions would want to, and will participate. This new format
will replace the "round tables" from last years conference
in Dallas.
In an attempt
to: 1) Provide a strong quality end to our national conference in
Cincinnati, 2) Increase participation in the last sessions of the
conference and 3) Provide commissions an opportunity to gain exposure
and have a forum of discussion on a major issue for their commission,
the National Conference Advisory Board and the Executive Office
have decided that the closing concurrent sessions in Cincinnati
will be sessions on HOT TOPICS for the commissions.
Much
like last year's round tables this will allow the commissions an
opportunity to focus on the content of their commission work outside
of their commission meetings at the conference - different from
last year's round tables, these will be not open discussions on
any subject but will be focused on the HOT TOPIC or ISSUE for the
commission, i.e. "Developing Learning Outcomes" might
be one for the Assessment Commission.
This
means commission chairs need to begin now with their members discussions
of what those topics or issues are in order to clearly outline the
topic for their session -- the Commission Chair (or designee) will
need to submit an abstract for this session to Rhonda Baker (baker@ksu.edu)
no later than May 1, 2004.
Please copy your abstract to Casey.Self@asu.edu
when you send it to Rhonda. Chairs also need to include in the abstract
to Rhonda what type of session..panel discussion, round table, etc..so
that room can be set for such.
Commission
chairs are not personally responsible for the development of these
topics or abstracts or facilitating the sessions -- chairs can (
and possibly should) get others involved (delegate folks) in the
commission in these sessions.
We
are very excited about this opportunity and will begin soon to advertise
this addition to this year's conference. Please let me know if I
can be of any assistance or if you or the chairs have any questions.
