Re: October 2006 CIG Division Reminders and Conference Information


Listed below are CIG Division deadlines and events coming up in OCTOBER, notes about Indianapolis conference activities, advance notice of NOVEMBER deadlines, and other important announcements and updates. OCTOBER 2006 DEADLINES and EVENTS
  • OCTOBER 2 -- Message text due for e-mails to be sent to all your commission or interest group members before the annual conference. Also, web page updates due if to be posted before conference. E-mail information to to Julia Wolf.
  • OCTOBER 17 -- Commission & Interest Group Division meeting, 1-6pm, prior to Indy annual conference
    • Agenda/reports will be posted soon to the "For Leaders" web page for you to review before the division meeting -- you will be notified when posted.
  • OCTOBER 19 -- Commission & Interest Group Fair during conference (7:30-8:30am)
  • OCTOBER 19-21 -- Commission and Interest Group Annual Meetings held in Indy
    • Outgoing Commission Chairs: Be sure to meet with your successor during the conference to help them plan goals and activities for the next year, including any budget requests to be included in the post-conference report.
  • ONGOING --
    • Plan agenda for your respective Commission or Interest Group meeting held during the annual conference. E-mail it to Julia Wolf if you'd like it to be posted on your unit's web site before the conference.
    • Solicit nominations for your successor as Commission Chair if being elected in 2007. If stepping down as Interest Group Chair, solicit possible successors. Click HERE for 2007 election information.

ADVANCE NOVEMBER 2006 REMINDERS:

  • NOVEMBER 1 -- Deadline for short "News & Updates" activity summaries for December 2006 issue of Academic Advising Today. E-mail article directly to Leigh Cunningham.
  • NOVEMBER 3 -- Nominations due for 2007 Leadership elections
  • NOVEMBER 15 -- Post-Conference reports due electronically, including budget requests (optional for Interest Groups)
  • NOVEMBER 15 -- Initial indication due in post-conference report by Chair of Interest Group interested in seeking Commission status in 2007.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS, LINKS, AND SUGGESTIONS
  • Click HERE for a master schedule of CIGD conference meetings and activities. Specific dates/times for Commission-sponsored sessions, Hot Topic sessions, and annual unit meetings have also been posted to the individual Commission & Interest Group "Conference Events" web pages.
  • You are all encouraged to attend the Annual Business meeting on Friday afternoon of the conference at 5:45-6:15pm in the Westin Grand I room (2nd floor).
  • If not done so already, please notify Julia Wolf if you will not be attending the Leadership dinner on Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00pm, following the CIG Division meeting.
  • For Fall leadership meeting info, click on: 2006 Fall meeting schedule, Expected Attendees at Leadership Meetings, and Fall Meeting Reimbursement Guidelines.
  • During your annual meeting, be sure to recognize your commission or interest group members who are 2006 NACADA award recipients (list posted under "Awards" on your unit's web site). Also, be sure to point out the leadership nomination form in the back of the conference program, and encourage your members to nominate a colleague!
  • If you are not presenting a "Hot Topics" session this year in Indy, plan to attend one of these sessions to support your fellow Chairs!
