Commission and Interest Group Post-Conference Reports

NACADA Commission and Interest Group Division

2003 Post-Conference Unit Report

Commission/Interest Group:   Faculty Advisors Commission

Chair:   Tim Champardé

Summary of Annual Meeting at National Conference (agenda items, issues, discussion topics, announcements, etc.)

Where We've Been

  1. Region 5 Conferences in Indianapolis and Madison to gain feedback on issues, direction, etc.
  2. Region 2 Conference in Pittsburgh to present four-hour workshop on faculty advising
  3. Repeat of workshop at national conference in Dallas
  4. Although overall numbers are up for faculty joining NACADA, a decrease in numbers in the Faculty Advisor Commission occurred this year.
  5. Both the keynote address and the special session given by Dr. Richard Light were extremely well received.

Where We're Going

  1. Further develop the workshop and present it at all regional conferences in 2004.
  2. Collaboration with Advisor Training and Development Commission
  3. Provide for train-the-trainers for workshop on specific campuses as needed.
  4. Continue to speak out against "faculty bashing" and all forms of disrespect of any professionals in advising.

Other Strategies

  1. Encourage more faculty to make presentations at regional and national conferences.
  2. Nominate more faculty for advising awards.
  3. Arrange to make more presentations on advising at professional organizations typically attended by college faculty.

Approximate Number of Commission Members in Attendance:   25
