Review how proposals are reviewed
and selected. Members of our Commission feel that all proposals
should somehow address/reflect the needs of diverse students.
Members are also concerned that there are not enough people
of color reviewing proposals. |

Section
5: Summary of Annual Commission
At our Multicultural Concerns Commission
meeting during the National Conference, we discussed the need
for more presenters of color as well as the need for more diversity
among the leadership of NACADA. The 30 Commission members present
also discussed the concern that not all presentations seem to
address/reflect the needs of diverse student populations. Questions
were raised about how proposals are reviewed and selected. How
many reviewers are people of color? Is there a point system
in place for selecting proposals? Is applicability to diverse
populations considered? One suggestion was made that audience
members need to perhaps challenge presenters through questions
during the session and through feedback on evaluations. Members
will try to use the email list more and will submit lists of
resources for inclusion on the Commission website.
