5: Summary of Annual Commission Meeting
The
Commission on Undecided and Exploratory Students (CUES)
annual meeting was held at the National Conference October,
2004. Approximately 50 people were in attendance.
Outgoing chair
Thomas Kenyon reviewed the past year and identified the
Commission sponsored sessions at the conference to encourage
attendance. New chair, Elizabeth Higgins was introduced
and a brief outline of proposed areas of focus for the upcoming
year was given (web site, list serve, survey, sharing of
best practices and current issues).
The major-changer
survey idea was presented by Virginia Gordon and feedback
was requested and given. This critical feedback also promoted
discussion within the areas of defining major changers and
undecided students, reasons for declaring majors, institutional
structure, administrative attitude towards undecided/exploratory
status, philosophy of undeclared, administrative enrollment
control and the relationship of academic advising to career
counseling.
