The
Commission and Interest Group Division
(CIGD) represents members with special advising
areas of interest, and is comprised of all current commissions and
interest groups that are represented on the NACADA Council by two
Division Representatives. Commissions
are charged with proposing and facilitating activities, networking,
and providing resources to advance the professional development
of members while focusing on the specific area of the Commission.
Interest Groups are
created when there is a need to focus on specific issues or represent
a particular interest of NACADA members, and have no formal governance
role--but have the option to move to Commission status if and when
they are ready to contribute to the organization by providing additional
programs to the members.
In the fall of 1993, NACADA reorganized to feature "Commissions"
as a primary method for membership involvement in the organization
designed to focus on specific areas of interest within the academic
advising field. Commissions usually evolve after initially forming
as "Interest Groups". The NACADA National Board reorganization in
2001-2002 resulted in the creation of the Commission and Interest
Group Division.
