Advising Administration Commission Members
From: Cindy Iten, Chair
Greetings from
the Advising Administration Commission!
Indianapolis seems like a long time ago...we've completed one semester
and started another since then. I know all of us lead busy lives
in our respective institutions, but I'd like to take a minute to
bring you up-to-date on the activities of the Commission. This commission
has over 2,000 members, second in size only to the Undecided and
Exploratory Students Commission.
First, I'd like to introduce the Commission
Steering Committee for 2006-08. They are:
Joshua
Barron, Texas Tech
University
Renee Borns,
Houston Baptist
University
Rosie Braun,
Concordia University-St. Paul
Brody Broshears,
Northern Illinois
University
Dianne Castor,
Coastal Georgia Community
College
Jayne Drake, Temple
University
Rusty Fox, Tarrant
County
Community
College
Sarah Ann Hones,
Southern Oregon University
Lynda Raheem,
Florida International
University
Alice Reinarz, Texas
A&M
University
Nancy Roadruck ,
University
of Akron
Elizabeth Sims, Paul
Smith's College
Sandra Williams,
San Diego State
University
I'd like to publicly thank them for their willingness to serve in
this capacity. They work diligently behind the scenes evaluating
conference proposals for commission-sponsored status, reviewing
commission award nominations, staffing the commission booth at the
annual meeting, and generally providing guidance and assistance
wherever needed. Thanks to all of you!
Second, there is still time to register for the upcoming
Institutes in San Antonio. Join your colleagues to discuss
new ideas for those old dilemmas or confer with them about those
new challenges that just popped up on your campus — maybe
they've already experienced them! Refer to www.nacada.ksu.edu/Events/index.htm
for up-to-date information.
And, the deadline to submit
proposals for the 2007 annual conference in Baltimore
is quickly approaching — February
10 will be here before you know it. Based on discussions
at the commission meeting in Indianapolis and the perceived gap
in sessions of interest to those more experienced administrators,
we strongly encourage proposals for presentations given by and for
"seasoned" administrators, especially those
addressing issues in personnel management, strategic planning, working
with campus-wide advising councils, managing multiple sites, and
mentoring new advisors/administrators in the profession. We will
also be looking for proposals with similar themes for the panel
presentation format. As a member of the Advising Administration
Commission, won't you consider
submitting a proposal?
Lastly, if you're not already on the Advising Administration
Commission list serve, we would welcome your participation.
Go to www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C05/listserve.htm
to sign up. The list serve gives you access to other administrators
to help with your administrative challenges, but the activity on
this list serve is not overwhelming and won't clutter your inbox.
Thanks for being part of this commission. Let any of us know how
the commission can better serve your needs. Have
a great spring!
