Commission Members

Greetings,
fellow administrators!
I
hope that some of you are joyously preparing for spring break and
can get to warmer (or cooler) climates to play! Some of us are wondering
where the time went so quickly and are thinking that summer/fall
pre-registration is right around the corner! Whatever you are thinking,
do it with a smile so folks will wonder what you are up to!
UPCOMING
NEWS/DEADLINES:
NACADA's call for award nominations closed on March 7. hope you
were able to celebrate someone's achievements at your institution
by nominating him/her!
Around
the end of March, the Executive Office will send letters to those
who submitted conference proposals and apprise them of the status.
We had a "bumper crop" of proposals this year --- must
be something about going to Las Vegas that got the "juices"
flowing! We had 54 proposals to review for the Advising Administration
tract and could select five to be commission-sponsored. I'm most
appreciative of Susan Campbell, Shannon
Williams, Cindy Iten, and Jayne Drake for reviewing
these and evaluating them so I could summarize and determine the
submission status. All this had to be done within a 5-day timeframe!
Good luck to all of you who have submitted proposals.
REGIONAL
MATTERS:
Some NACADA regions are hosting conferences still through spring.
Please be sure, if you are attending one, to let your colleagues
know about our Advising Administration Commission and how to join
us. We have a lot of members with great experience who are willing
to share and network, especially with our newer administrators.
ADMINISTRATORS'
TIPS:
I've been trying to post topics by month that are of interest to
a broad section of administrators. I really do need your suggestions
of some topics to carry us throughout the year. Please send me your
topics of interest as soon as you think of one! To review the topics
already posted, please visit our commission's "Resources"
web page at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C05/C05-Resources-Tips.htm.
For
March, our tips should focus on "What
do you or your advisors do to encourage students to take responsibility
for their degree progress?" This topic
popped up on the list serve with a question about a type of "waiver"
form or "commitment" form. What ways do you encourage
students about this? Please send your tips to me soon. (Also note
that whenever I post tips to the web I include the contributor's
name, institution, and e-mail address. If you want to post anonymously
that's ok -- you just need to let me know that when you e-mail me.)
PARTING
WORDS:
"The influence of each human being on others in this life
is a kind of immortality". John Quincy Adams (1767-1848),
6th U.S. President (from my daily online Ragan Motivational Resources)
Happy
Spring!
