It is my pleasure
to announce that Alice Reinarz has
been selected to receive the 2005
NACADA Service to Commission Award for the Advising Administration
Commission. This award was established to recognize
individuals who have provided outstanding service, leadership, and
commitment to a particular Commission within the Association in
support of its efforts to enhance the development of students. With
that in mind, I'm sure that you will agree that Alice is very deserving
of this award.
Alice
will be formally presented with this award at our annual commission
meeting held during the national conference in Las Vegas this fall
(time and date TBA). Please join me in congratulating Alice Reinarz
on this award! She can be reached at areinarz@oar.tamu.edu.

Other
bits of interest....
In
preparation for the Las Vegas Conference, you will see in the upcoming
literature that there are no "hot topics" discussions
for this year. We've had an abundance of proposals selected for
presentation and have given up these time slots to allow for more
presentations. Be sure to get your
conference registrations in as early as possible!
For the registration form and information, visit www.nacada.ksu.edu/NationalConf/2005/index.htm.
Our
"Administrators Tips"
resource page has been lacking suggestions over the past month from
you, the members, who benefit from this resource. To get things
rolling again, does anyone have some
tips to offer about "ethics"
in advising? Can you teach someone "ethics"? What do you
advise your staff when their personal ethics/values bump up against
the "advising community ethics/values"?
The "Tips" page is a resource for YOU and can be found
on our commission web site at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C05/C05-Resources-Tips.htm.
Please send your tips on this topic (or one posted prior to this)
or some suggested topics for which I could ask for tips!
Many
of the state legislatures are meeting and enacting laws that impact
higher education in the state. One such law being considered by
the Texas legislature is requiring all persons in the job of academic
advising to have at the minimum a Bachelor's degree and to complete
an
institution-wide training program. If
you have laws in your states being considered that directly impact
academic advisors, please let me know (Linda.Chalmers@utsa.edu).
We often times think we are the only ones encountering issues that
have been thrust at us and we can find solace and solutions
when others have encountered the same challenges.
Cheers
and Best Regards,
Linda
