Dear
Small Colleges and Universities Commission Members,
Can
you believe that the time is already here? The deadline
for proposals for the 2007
NACADA Annual Conference in Baltimore is February
10th. The theme for this year's conference is "Advisors
as Navigators: From Orientation to Graduation and Beyond".
It
is vitally important that we continue to create a small college
"track" of sessions so that our NACADA Annual Conference
will meet the needs of our Small Colleges/Universities attendees.
If any of you have interest, but are hesitant to do a session alone,
please e-mail the commission listserve
and we'll connect people with one another. Here are the topics that
we brainstormed:
Proposed
Topics/Ideas for Sessions at NACADA 2007
- One-stop Counseling/Learning
Centers and Hybrid (Faculty + professional advisors) Advising
Models
- Helping Students to Learn to
be Better Advisees
- The Advising Syllabus
- Using BlackBoard (or other course
management systems) to create advising “courses”
- Discussing faculty workload and
faculty equity issues as advising as teaching and learning activities
become more common
- Measuring learning outcomes of
advising
- Dealing with Parents—Helping
Students and Parents Develop Students’ “Independence
Factor”
- Instituting Change at Small Colleges
as it relates to advising as teaching and learning
- Dealing with Sophomore Issues
- Undeclared/Undecided/Exploratory

and Careers (e.g. through Major, Minor, Etc. Fairs)
Don't
forget to look at NACADA's advice
for proposals and tutorial on the conference web site!
Remember,
the Commission is able to sponsor sessions. Please give us a good
pool from which to choose our sponsored sessions!
Best,
Julie
