The May 3, 2004, reflection, "The Wrong Major" by Frederik
Ohles, includes this thought-provoking aphorism attributed to
Kimberly Maxian Franklin (director of career services at Illinois
College), "Let your major be what you love most; let your
work be what you do best." Earlier essays are archived at
the site and include "Looking for Good Practices? Look First
at Liberal Arts Colleges."
The Lumina Foundation recently alerted the Small Colleges list serve
about their new report--"Refuse to Lose: Today's colleges
and universities must work to foster student success." This
report joins several other down-loadable publications available
at this site. The Lumina Foundation has gathered information of
interest to colleges of all sizes and gives special emphasis to
student success at community colleges.
