Greetings
to all! I hope everyone had a relaxing summer
and is ready to get back into the swing of things on campus.
As
we look forward to a new year of advising, I
am asking your help in sharing helpful hints or tips with your fellow
advisors across the country. Do you have a particular
method of advising that you find valuable? Do you have any tips
for engaging the students in their own planning? How do you get
to know your advisees? Do you use e-mail advising, and what makes
it work? And so on. I would like to put together a newsletter featuring
these tips and tricks that will help us all be more effective advisors.
If
you have information you would like to share, please send it to
me at stockwel@fvtc.edu
by Friday, August 26.
One brief paragraph of text per tip is all that is required. At
a later date, we can expand on some of the more in-depth practices,
but for now let’s concentrate on tips and tricks. Both the
newsletter and these tips will also be posted to our commission
web site for future reference.
Now
is also a great time to think about nominating yourself or a fellow
advisor for our “Who's Who Among
Faculty Advisors” page. Visit the following
link to view this Web page and see the suggested format for the
postings— www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C15/resources.htm.
We're anxious to read all about the wonderful people in faculty
advising, so get those submissions in soon!
Thanks
for your help — it is making us all better advisors!
