Attention, Members of the Advising Transfer Students Commission!

Happy New Year! I want to alert you to two deadlines and urge you to submit a proposal for a session at next fall's national conference in Cincinnati and/or to nominate a Commission member for the Service to Commission Award.

Conference Proposals

Last year we had less than 20 proposals for conference sessions on transfer advising. The presentations that were selected were outstanding, but there is, I know, lots and lots of good work going on related to transfer that colleagues would very much benefit from hearing about.

Service to Commission Award

We all seem to agree that advisors need receive more recognition, as individuals and as a profession. Here's an opportunity to recognize someone who has made a difference to the work of transfer advising through their service to the ATS Commission. The nomination process includes gathering information from the nominee and soliciting letters of support so while we hope the process isn't terribly burdensome, it will take a little planning. Now is the time to start. The deadline is March 8. The description of the award criteria and nomination process is at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/CService.htm.

Institute for the Study of Transfer Students

The Institute for the Study of Transfer Students Planning Committee invites you to the Second Annual Institute for the Study of Transfer Students. George Kuh will be the Capstone Keynote speaker and Alfred Herrera from UCLA is the Opening Keynote. The pre-conference workshops are designed to appeal to a variety of higher education professionals. Please take a look at the materials and contact them if you have any questions. The early bird deadline for conference registration is January 15th. Please note that the hotel has extended their reservation deadline until January 19th.
