SUBUNIT:  Advising Transfer Students Commission (TS)

I. UNIT GOALS:
· Advance the body of knowledge on advising transfer students
· Identify key issues in advising and retention of transfer students
· Identify innovative and effective methods used in advising transfer students
· Increase the level of involvement of commission members

II. FY2000 OBJECTIVES TO ADDRESS GOALS AND NACADA STRATEGIC PLAN:
· Continue to recruit and promote membership in TS
· Continue to encourage submission of programs at regional and national conferences
· Encourage submission of articles for publication in newsletter and journal
· Collaborate with authors of transfer student issues monograph
· Establish a web site to serve as a clearinghouse for transfer student best practices
· Encourage participation of TS members in regional conference roundtables
· Increase the amount of members involved as leaders in the commission

III. ACTIVITIES SINCE LAST BOARD MEETING:
· Mailed a letter to all commission members soliciting authors for the Transfer Students monograph
· Proposed a chapter for the Monograph
· Established a list serve for the Commission (Advising Transfer Students list serve)
· Served as resource for TS Liaisons presenting at their regional conferences this spring (9/10 regions had roundtable discussions on transfer student issues.
· Submitted update to the newsletter
· Wrote copy for Commission brochure
· Contacted sponsored program presenters to congratulate them
· Submitted 3 year report for commission

VII. FUTURE ACTIVITIES PLANNED:
· Rethink and redefine the structure of the TS Leadership Team developed in 1998
· Recruit Action Team Chairs
· Commission Update to all TS members
· Develop a TS Commission Web page
· Write chapter for Advising Transfer Students monograph
· Nominate a replacement for the Commission Chair position, up for election this spring
· Attend national conference in Orlando; serve as Hospitality co-chair, conduct business meeting, and participate in Commission Fair
