Assessment of Advising Commission Members
From: Naomi Wright, Chair
Dear
Assessment of Advising Commission Members:
I am Naomi Wright,
and I serve as the elected Chair of the Assessment of Advising Commission.
I want to first thank those who participated and voted for me to
represent this Commission. Victor Macaruso, Jill Johnson, and Julia
Wolf have been extremely instrumental in supplying me with great
information and resources to help me launch my position with you.
As Chair, I falter and admit that I have been a little slow in picking
up the baton. I have cleared my calendar and am on board to convey
to you my vision of great possibilities for our commission as well
as gain your insight and suggestions for moving the work on Assessment
of Advising forward.
Research has indicated that Assessment of Advising in not a new
concept - it is alive and well. Research indicates that "assessment"
is being addressed across college and university campuses across
the nation on different levels of concern. Important to us will
be to take a closer look at both the commonalities and differences
and connect in ways that will foster better all around services
for the student constituents we serve.
Through
our list serve, we can dialogue and take part in the discussion
of our shared ideologies. My goal is to put forth some defining
goals for the next couple of months that will set the tone in this
area. If you are not already subscribed to the commission's listserve,
I encourage you to do so — instructions are at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C32/listserve.htm.
Goal One -
To continue the vision that Victor Macaruso
had as previous Chair to annotate the bibliography that was placed
on the commission's website. If anyone is interested in taking one
or two of the articles to assist us with this project, your services
would be embraced. Please e-mail me at nwright@njcu.edu.
Goal Two - I will be posing controversial
thoughts and questions twice a month based on NACADA's articles
on Assessment of Advising and invite your views, opinions, expertise
and feedback. Maybe some good can come out of all of our learning
experiences.
Goal Three - I will be soliciting information from
your agencies to help me prepare for reports as requested by NACADA.
Your input will be key in assisting me with adhering to NACADA's
deadlines.
In just a few days, I will be e-mailing you with other suggestions
I have. I look forward to a very productive term and thank all of
you with your patience and willingness to participate in the Assessment
of Advising Commission.
Yours truly,
Naomi Wright, Chair
NACADA Assessment of Advising Commission (2006-2008)
