Greetings
Assessment of Advising Commission (ASAC) Members!
DALLAS
WAS DAZZLING!
As
you can see from the greeting above, we are pleased to inform
you that we were granted commission status. It was great seeing
those of you who were able to attend the NACADA National Conference
in Dallas and we missed those of you were not able to be there.
At the Interest Group meeting, we had a lively discussion about
assessment activities at various campuses and discussed what activities
we could pursue to address concerns raised by the membership.
The ideas that were generated can be found on the Commission website
at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C32/news.htm.
At
this time we would like to solicit additional feedback from those
members who were not able to attend the meeting. Suggestions/comments
can be e-mailed to Lynne Higa (lmh@advisors.hawaii.edu)
or Mike Kirk-Kuwaye (mk@advisors.hawaii.edu).
BE
A VOLUNTEER!
Our
commission has grown to over 1500 members, and we are seeking
interested and energetic individuals to serve on the following
committees:
Visit
the website at www.advising.hawaii.edu/nacada/assessmentIG/AAIG.asp.
We
will announce additional committees and volunteer opportunities
as they arise.
LEARN
ABOUT ASSESSMENT!
NACADA
will be holding an Assessment Seminar following the Administrators'
Institute on February 5-6, 2004 in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The
Assessment Seminar Curriculum committee has been working hard
to develop the curriculum - you will not be disappointed! For
more information on the seminar, visit the NACADA website at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/AssessmentSeminar/index.htm.
CURRENT
COMMISSION PROJECTS:
The
commission is currently undertaking two projects:
WATCH
FOR THE DECEMBER NEWSLETTER!
Keep
a watch out for the December Newsletter and the article written
by Victoria McGillin, Wheaton College (Steering Committee Member,
Assessment of Advising Commission; former chair, NACADA Research
Committee) entitled " Research versus Assessment: What's the Difference?"
SHARE
AN ASSESSMENT TOOL OR METHOD!
We
know that many of our members are doing great things at their
institution! Please consider sharing your experience and expertise
by contributing an opinion paper, copy of your home-grown protocol/tool,
etc. to be housed on the Commission website. See the web pages
below to get an idea of what can be shared.

CONTINUE
THE DISCUSSION ON ASSESSMENT!
If
there is one thing that we learned from the Dallas Conference,
it is that there is a need to continually discuss the issues surrounding
the assessment of academic advising, and the need to be proactive
(not reactive) in our assessment activities. For instructions
on joining the assessment listserv: http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C32/list serve.htm
