Platform Statement:
Over the past 7 years, I have watched Region 1 strengthen its
role in advancing the importance of academic advising to student
success. The strength of Region 1 is due to the leadership
skills of the current and previous regional chairs and, in no
small part, to the involvement and commitment of its members.
I can think of no higher honor than to be involved with facilitating,
encouraging, and supporting the continued growth and development
of Region 1 and its members as Region Chair.
The longer I am involved in Region 1, the more I appreciate and
value the talent and commitment to academic advising that exists
in the Region's membership. Tapping into this talent so
that this wealth of expertise might be shared is important to
achieving the Region's goals. Some of the goals I think
are important for the Region's future include:
- completing the restructuring that Maura Ivanick has so adeptly
facilitated to date;
- continuing to increase Region 1 membership;
- increasing participation in conference activities;
- fostering the growth of individual interest areas within
the region (e.g., graduate student advising, etc.), encouraging
academic advising research and scholarship; and,
- providing support for Region 1 members to move forward critical
assessment activities.
