Past Involvement in NACADA:

Years in NACADA: 5 years
Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved while in office: Co-chair for 2004 Region VII Conference-working with Kansas Academic Advising Network (KAAN) to coordinate and host the conference. Member, Kansas Region VII Steering Committee, 2002-2003-worked with committee in developing Region VII Steering Committee Operating Principles and budget. Presented at NACADA Region VII Conference in 2001 and 2000.
National Offices Held and Accomplishments Achieved While in Office: None to date
Committee Activities and Accomplishments: 2002 KAAN Conference Chair-worked to create Best of State Presentation; KAAN Newsletter Editor, 2001-2002; Chair, Kansas Academic Advising Network (KAAN), 2001-worked to provide opportunities through list serve and increasing use of institutional memberships; KAAN Conference Host, 2000-worked with board to establish Town Hall Meeting at state conferences that is still continued and worked to provide access to conference for a greater number of institutions.
Commission/Interest Group Activities and Accomplishments: Over the years, have been member of the following commissions: Advisor Training and Development, Advising Administration, and Small Colleges and Universities.
Other: Presented at NACADA National Conferences, 2001 and 2000. Presented at KAAN State Conference, 2001 and 2000. Scholarship Recipient, 1998 Academic Advising Summer Institute in Park City, UT. Developed two award programs at my institution to recognize outstanding advisors-1) a university award determined by colleagues with four college winners and an overall winner with each recipient receiving cash award and plaque; 2) a student-selected award (The Navigator) that mirrors our outstanding teaching faculty member and outstanding senior. Developed advisor development program and currently working on making it a 30-topic online program for our advisors. Developed an advisor evaluation system that is used institution-wide and is currently going online. Coordinated efforts to nominate five individuals and publications for NACADA Awards: 1999 Outstanding Publication Certificate of Merit--FHSU Advising Handbook; 2000 NACADA Pacesetter--Dr. Lawrence Gould; 2000 Outstanding Advisor Certificate of Merit--Sue Boos; 2001 Outstanding Advisor Certificate of Merit--Sharon Barton; 2002 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Certificate of Merit--Lianne Connolly.
Platform Statement:

As Region VII Chair, I would support the mission and goals of NACADA.  In addition, I will make a commitment to two efforts for our region.  First, to support providing development opportunities for advisors at all higher education institutions in the region at affordable prices.  Second, I will promote efforts to improve the status of our profession. I will work to accomplish these two efforts through the following:

I.  Providing affordable development for all advisors
    A.  Promote the concept of continuous improvement
    B.  Collect member preferences and needs for development
    C.  Connect with state organizations to utilize all resources available
    D.  Commit to being financially responsible when selecting site with budget concerns of institutions in mind

II.  Promote efforts to improve status of the advising profession
    A.  Promote professional recognition
        1.  Encourage state, local and regional submissions for awards at all levels
        2.  Encourage state, local and regional press releases of honors and development received
        3.  Improve relationships with state Departments of Education and/or Regents Boards
    B.  Promote personal growth of advisors
        1.  Increase expectations to participate, present and encourage others in advising development
        2.  Assist to develop an internal network that provides information on opportunities for growth
