Platform Statement:
As Director of Outreach Student Services at a small campus serving
1100+ students, I work with all areas of student services.
My heart has always been in academic advising because I know from
experience that students who receive good advisement are satisfied
students, leading to better retention. I have attended two
NACADA Summer Institutes, five NACADA national conferences, two
regional conferences and am on the planning committee for the
2004 Region 7 Conference. I also train and develop new faculty
and professional advisors. The two-year colleges represent a large
portion of the membership of NACADA and this group has always
been willing to share ideas, present at conferences, and if elected,
I hope to continue in the tradition of the previous commission
chairs, who I have come to know and respect. We play an
important role-advising students who might otherwise never start
college. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to observe
the changes in these students as they succeed in college, graduate,
and move on to a university. I will promote active involvement
among our Commission members.
