Platform Statement:
My qualifications to be commission chair include 10 years of
collegiate advising as well as six years specifically working
with student athletes. Having worked in both the academic and
athletic environments, I have a clear understanding of the roles
of college adviser and athletic adviser. I understand the
types of pressures both are working under to help student athletes
be successful.
My goal as commission chair would be to provide a forum for commission
members to voice concerns and share strategies as well as encouraging
participation in conference presentations. I would solicit ideas
from commission members as to what goals they would like the commission
to achieve.
An organization exists for academic advisers (NACADA) and an
organization exists for athletic academic advisers (N4A).
The Commission on Student Athletes needs to begin to better bridge
these two groups. Much of our work overlaps, we all want students
to succeed, how do we better work together to ensure success.
