Platform Statement:
At our recent state advising conference, I had the pleasure of
hearing a panel of students from two-year institutions talk about
their advising experiences. These students strengthened my already
deep conviction that advisors do indeed play a very important
role in the lives of students.
It is with this conviction that I propose to lead the Two-Year
Colleges Commission. Following in the footsteps of my successful
predecessors, I will encourage attendance and active participation
in state, regional, and national conferences. Based on feedback
from this year's commission meeting, I will strive to establish
a learning community atmosphere at conferences so that we have
more time together to discuss, collaborate, and learn from each
other. I will work with the commission steering committee to address
areas of concern to members. We are a commission with a vast knowledge
base; I will encourage sharing of this knowledge via our list serve,
newsletter, and web page. The more we learn from each other, the
better prepared we will be to serve our students who so much want
and need this involvement from us.
