Platform
Statement:
The
creation of new knowledge is the heart of scholarship in higher
education. As the national leader in academic advising, NACADA must
work to help members understand the importance of research and to
help them to gain skills in research. The committee must promote
scholarship through the NACADA research grants program, helping
researchers from the proposal stage through publication.
I
would carry on the work done by Vicki McGillin and Rich Robbins,
continuing the pre-conference workshops that we have offered for
some time now. The committee needs to continue to mentor proposal
writers to help them succeed in getting grants from us. I think
we also need to work on a way to get research results published
quickly. The committee, through Marsha Miller in the Executive Office,
can explore what avenues are available to our sponsored researchers.
My
own research background started with my master of science degree
in educational psychology. We are the folks who learn research methods
and conduct studies about human learning, particularly in educational
settings.
