Platform Statement:

In 1997, I became Director of Advisement and Counseling, Special Needs Coordinator and ADA/504 Compliance Officer at Cloud County Community College . I was quickly confronted by a maze of laws, court decisions, medical diagnoses, test results and technological developments. I first attended NACADA's national convention in 2000 and co-presented at Montreal in 2002. Since then, I published an article in the Clearinghouse and completed a book review for the Journal. I am currently the treasurer for the Kansas AHEAD organization (KanAHEAD).

Based on my experiences I want a Commission that responds to the informational needs of its members. I would foster this through convention activities, the listserv and development of a Web site. Surveys published on the Web site could identify areas of concern and convention presenters identified to address those concerns. The Web site would also provide current information concerning best practices, trends, court decisions and other developments relevant to advising students with disabilities. The listserv could be made more effective by identifying a cadre of experts to respond to member concerns. The listserv should become a center for the exchange of information and the first place an advisor would go for assistance.
