Statement:
It
is an honor to be nominated to be the chair of the Commission
on Undecided and Exploratory Students. I currently serve as the
director of advising for the University
of Southern
Maine . I have been in higher
education for fifteen years and have been directly involved in
academic advising for the past ten years. Prior to that time I
was involved in other student affairs and academic affairs-related
areas such as student activities, financial aid, and summer session
administration.
The
primary focus of my advising experience has involved working with
undecided/exploratory students. Through my interactions with students,
I have realized what a positive experience being an undecided/exploratory
student can be for an individual. The path of development and
discovery can change a student's life. It is my passion and commitment
to this group of students that makes me interested in this Commission
leadership position.
It
is important for the Commission to continue to facilitate networking
among its members to share ideas, models of good practice, and
to address the advising issues of undecided/exploratory students.
The Commission should also encourage its members to present at
the national and regional levels, to submit articles for journals,
newsletters and website contributions. I would welcome the opportunity
to serve the Commission and NACADA in helping to facilitate these
important membership development activities.
