Platform
Statement:
I
have five years of professional (full-time) advising experience
and three years of experience in managing a nationally-known,
interactive website that accomplishes the automatic evaluation
of transfer credit for Ball
State
University.
I have given numerous presentations on advising and on dealing
with transfer credits at NACADA, AACRAO, AGLS, DARS Users and
other conferences. I have published on this subject as well (in
an upcoming NACADA monograph). Finally, I have been working for
several years with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education's
Statewide Transfer and Articulation Committee in order to forge
a statewide system that automates the evaluation of transfer credit
for Indiana
institutions of higher education and delivers that information
via the Internet to students on a 24-7 basis.
My
belief is that the Commission on Advising Transfer Students' next
step is to build on the strength of all it has accomplished to
date by forming stronger ties with groups of similar interest
in other organizations, such as AACRAO. Together, we can agree
upon a set of guiding principles regarding the treatment of transfer
students and their learning experiences, which can inspire and
help steer the rumored impending legislation on this topic in
the U. S. Congress.
