Platform
Statement:
I
want to serve on the Board of Directors because I am deeply committed
to the advancement of the profession of academic advising. I have
experienced the change in status of advisers from people who fill
out schedule forms to professional colleagues who are resources/partners
in decision-making regarding student-centered academic services.
Some
of the issues that I believe are important for the future of academic
advising and NACADA are:
- Assessment:
talking the language of administration and faculty
- Defining
professional standards: NACADA needs to be the authority for determining
the criteria for professionals in advising.
- Continuing
to diversify the face of NACADA: thinking creatively about how
to attract and retain groups underrepresented within NACADA (including
racial and ethnic populations, the next generation of advisers,
faculty advisers, etc.)
I
think the strength of NACADA is at the grassroots. I am interested
in helping to implement the current strategic plan and to envision
new directions for growth and development of NACADA and its members.
I
bring to the Board four years of experience as a Regional Representative
and member of the previous Board of Directors and twenty years of
experience in the field of advising.
