Statement:
During
the past year I have worked with Lynne Higa and Mike Kirk-Kuwaye
as they guided and nurtured the Assessment of Advising Interest
Group. Now that our interest group has become the Assessment of
Advising Commission (ASAC) with the largest membership of any
commission in NACADA, I pledge to establish policies and procedures
that will allow everyone's voice to be heard. I will establish
subcommittees to allow members to explore their particular interests,
expand the list serve and resources to meet the needs of the members,
and provide greater depth and breadth in the Commission's web
site to make it an even more useful resource. In addition, I will
invite members to contribute to an Assessment Primer that will
provide resources for those beginning the assessment process.
In
my previous role as Vice President and Dean of a liberal arts
college, I gained extensive experience in the theory and practice
of assessment. Since I became Coordinator of Advising at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, I have committed myself to expanding and
improving the on-going assessment of advising. I am a founding
member of the Assessment of Advising Commission Steering Group,
and am presently chairing the Commission's effort to survey the
status of assessment of academic advising in colleges and universities
throughout higher education. I believe that my connections with
the Technology in Advising Commission, the Advising Administration
Commission, and the Research Committee will benefit the Assessment
of Advising Commission. I would like to use my experience and
involvement in assessment and my commitment to the growth of our
newly minted commission to help our Commission meet members' assessment
needs.
