Statement:
I
have been a professional advisor for engineering and computer
science students for over six years. I am currently the Director
of UNLV's College of Engineering Advising Center.
I
believe that we are facing a number of pressing issues today that
affect the delivery of academic advising in our workplace - issues
such as, advising loads, accreditation, under-prepared students,
retention, advisor training, and communication between faculty
and professional advisors. If elected as Chair, I hope to further
develop the support network that has developed among our members
the past few years to one that is a recognized resource within
our profession. By encouraging year-long dialog and resource-sharing
that begins at the national conference, and trickling it down
to a regional level, we can continue to better prepare ourselves
for the changes that are taking place on campus and within our
profession.
