Statement:
The
academic advising profession plays a critical role in higher education.
As the premier organization promoting quality advising, NACADA must
continue to meet its constituents' needs. Having served in elected
and appointed positions from the committee level to Board of Directors,
I am familiar with NACADA's strategic plans, the interaction with
our Executive Office, and our constituents' expressed needs.
NACADA
must promote continuing professional development in the form of
local and national conferences and printed publications. We need
to reach out to those who deliver advising programs who are not
members, encouraging their participation.
NACADA
must be in a position to speak forcefully for all who advise. NACADA
needs to develop position papers, giving our members the voice to
make their case for quality advising at their home campus. In an
era of shrinking resources, the advising community must position
itself to articulate clearly its role on college campuses world-wide.
Advising needs to present itself as central to any institution's
mission, as a partner in the educational endeavor, and as an opportunity
where students can learn as much in the advising context as they
would in the classroom. I would be honored to serve you as the next
NACADA president.
