Platform
Statement:
I
have had the unique opportunity to serve as a faculty advisor and
a professional staff advisor in departments of chemistry and biochemistry
since I began my academic career 15 years ago. During this time,
I have learned about the challenges that face both faculty and professional
advisors in the sciences. There are a number of interesting challenges
in our profession. Recently, recruiting and retention of science
& engineering students has been a focus of the commission's
discussions as well as ways in which we can gather data from our
various programs to use for benchmarking studies.
I
would like to ensure that the commission remains active on these
issues. I would also like to see the efforts that Jill Johnson initiated
at the 2003 National Conference to determine the needs and issues
of the commission members continued through increased use of the
ESA listserv and website. I also want to determine other ways in
which to involve additional members in the activities of the commission.
I look forward to serving the commission members in this new capacity.
