Statement:
The NACADA Awards Program
recognizes individuals and programs for the contributions they
make to the success of students and for the services they provide
to their institution as well as to NACADA. The Awards Committee
must continue to play an integral role in promoting recognition
of all advisors. It is important to continue evaluating and awarding
advisors based on NACADA's core values, reflective of the various
advisor roles, types of advising programs and publications. It
is also important that we continue to recognize individuals for
their service and commitment to NACADA at all levels.
This recognition for
professional and faculty advisors is an effective means to acknowledge
the dedication and efforts we make for our students. To this end,
in my previous position I developed an advising award program
on campus for faculty advisors, which is now in it's 5th year.
I believe that institutional award programs such as this strengthen
advising at the institution, and help develop and promote more
nominees for awards at the national level. If elected, I will
work to encourage institutional awards programs while maintaining
the Award Committee's commitment to excellence in the advising
profession.
