Platform
Statement:
- Highlight
your involvement in this unit that will help you in leading this
unit. What roles have you played in this unit thus far?
My
goal as a Region Chair has been to develop awareness throughout
the Northwest of NACADA and NACADA resources. While Region 8
is the largest region (in land mass) it has a small contingent
of NACADA members. Another goal has been to encourage membership
and participation in NACADA from the campus level and state level.
Many advisors cannot particpate at regional and national levels,
but want to have some connetion to NACADA. In 2005, Montana became
Region 8's first focus state. A Montana workshop was developed
to encourage participation at the state level. In a state that
has 19 NACADA members, 91 participants attended the NACADA Montana
one-day workshop. As a result of this first workshop, the participants
planned Montana advising workshops for 2006 and 2007 during this
one-day event. For 2006, the focus state will be Alaska. We hope
to continue developing our NACADA participation throughout the
entire region.
- What
do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for
this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
As
a NACADA Division representative, I will continue to focus on
the most important component in this organization-its individual
members. In order to maintain the vigor of the organization,
we need to promote, encourage and support professional development
for advisors-those who belong to NACADA and those who will belong
to NACADA in the future. I will promote state initiatives that
reach advisors who cannot attend regional and national venues. I
will listen and act as the voice for the regions and their members.
-
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position
or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
My
participation in NACADA leadership helps me to stay focused on
the importance of a professional commitment to development. This
development keeps me aware of advising and how continual development
of my advising skills strengthens the work I do with students
on my campus.
- Provide
any additional comments or information regarding your past experiences
and qualifications that relate to your candidacy for this leadership
position.
