Platform Statement:

  • Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

My involvement in the Advisor Training and Development Commission has included participation in Commission meetings during the National conferences and attending as many commission-sponsored sessions as possible. I also volunteered to read and select proposals on behalf of the Commission for the 2005 National conference.

  • What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

I believe that the most important goal for the Commission is to increase and strengthen connections between its members and the regional and national divisions of NACADA. Initiatives, both new and continuing, should include recruiting new members, encouraging increased participation by current members, and the sharing of resources both within the Commission and with other members of NACADA.

Some of the ways to meet the strategic plan include e-mail and list serve communication with members of the Commission, encouraging and soliciting both articles for NACADA publications and proposals for regional and the national conferences, highlighting the activities of the Commission at the annual CIGD Fair, and working to promote attendance at the annual commission meeting.  The annual meeting is an opportunity to connect in person with members and solidify sub-committee and volunteer commitments. It is also important to reach out to members who aren't able to attend a conference and suggest ways that they can contribute to the Commission and Association.

  • Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

I am interested in collaborating with my colleagues from all regions of NACADA to highlight and promote excellence in advisor training and development. Seven years of conference planning in Region 1, selecting Commission proposals for the 2005 National Conference, and reviewing nominations for the Awards Committee has given me a wonderful picture of the talent and dedication of our membership. The opportunity to involve more people in the Commission, share ideas and encourage professional development of others influenced my decision to run for this leadership position.

  • Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

My involvement in NACADA, first in Region 1, and now in the National Association through the Awards Committee, has been a rewarding experience. Many people within the Association have mentored me and encouraged me to push myself personally and professionally. I would like to have the opportunity to give back to NACADA by serving as the Advisor Training and Development Commission Chair.
