Platform Statement:
Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that
will help you in leading this unit. What roles have
you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?
|
During the past 10 years I have attended drive-in workshops, a summer
institute, regional and national conventions. I have attended Region
4 meetings at national conferences and have gotten to know a number
of people in Region 4. I have depended on the expertise of NACADA
leaders all over the country when I have had to make decisions in
support of advisement activities on our campus. I appreciate what
many in leadership have done to support me and I would like the
opportunity to do the same for others. My leadership involvement
in NACADA has been limited due to being a president of the University
Optimist Club and for the past 4 years serving as the Lay Leader
of a congregation of 900. These terms are up and I would like to
get more involved in NACADA.
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
I
would like to see more involvement and participation in conferences
from the schools in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and my area of Georgia.
We have great people in our region. I would like to see us grow
and get to know each other better. I think it is exciting to think
about having a national conference in Puerto Rico!
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I
was nominated for this position by my Associate Dean, Dr. Olivia
C. Edenfield. She knows what I have done to lead as Interim Director
of Advisement at Georgia Southern, how I have worked to maintain
an Undeclared student status on our campus, how I have managed the
closing down of one advisement center and the starting up of a new
CLASS Advisement Center. As I mentioned before, I have reached a
point in other leadership positions where I can do something different.
I have much interest and enthusiasm to offer.
Provide any additional comments or information (either
personal or leadership-related)
that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered
elsewhere in your platform information.
The
people I have met through NACADA have been a tremendous support
to me over the last 10 years. I have learned that there are great
people in this organization willing to help in our field of academic
advising. The better our advisement services are on our campuses,
the better we are able to make a difference in the life of an 18-21
year old. To me, this is what it's all about.
