Platform Statement:

Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit.  What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

My role has been limited to just one meeting during the Annual Conference (2006) and various e-mail and conference calls. As a member of the committee, my role has been to review the question at hand for discussion and research the information to provide valuable input, insight, and suggestions for the committee.

What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

I believe that recruitment and retention are key to the success of the strategic plan. As academic advising grows as a viable component to student success, it is key that we provide the education, support and resources. We need to find ways to reach out to new advisers and figure out how to keep our current members involved and connected. As our (NACADA) numbers grow, it is important that we find innovated ways to reach out and communicate to our members.

Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

My personal philosophy is simple....I am not one to just be a member of a group. I like to know the "ins and outs" of an organization and be a part of what is taking place. If I am going to invest my time and energy into something, I would rather take an active role. Being new to the organization, the role of Chair of the Membership Committee is an excellent step up from my current role as committee member. It is just one step closer to president. Well, not for a while.

Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

Though I have worked in higher education for over 8 years and been a member of various organizations, this is the first time I have ever been nominated for a leadership position. So to be nominated is a huge confidence booster and I would be honored if elected to the position of chair. Thanks.
