Statement:
Highlight
your previous involvement within this unit that will help
you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within
this particular unit as a member thus far? |
I am new to this group, so other than reading updates I have not been involved. I am hoping to change this by accepting the nomination for this leadership role.
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
In preparing to answer this question, I looked up the goals and activities of this commission and reflected back to my experiences at the Summer Institutes. Two items stood out to me. We need more members who are faculty advisors, and we need to offer more development and programming specifically for faculty advisors. These two items are connected. We might not have more members who are faculty advisors, because we do not offer enough development and programming. We need to reach out to individuals who are faculty advisors by connecting with other professional teaching organizations, developing best practices, creating more resources, and offering more programming. Faculty advisors are a unique type of advisor, and we need to focus on that uniqueness as we increase development initiatives.
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I never thought about running for this position, but I was nominated. I was surprised and thought I will decline, but after thinking about it, I want to become more involved in NACADA and know I can bring fresh, innovated ideas and high energy to this commission. At my college, I am a faculty member, who advises, manages advisors, and developments all advisors on campus; my experience in this unusual position can bring a different type of knowledge. I would love to work with all of you to grow our commission.
Provide any additional comments or information (either
personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered
elsewhere in your platform information.
