Since its inception in 1973, Qatar University (QU) has served as Qatar’s national university, and is the leading institution for academic and research excellence in the region.

Seven colleges -- Arts and Sciences (CAS), Business and Economics (CBE), Education (CED), Engineering (CENG), Law (LAWC), Pharmacy (CPH), and Sharia and Islamic Studies (CSIS)  – offer over 70 specializations at the undergraduate level – the widest range of academic programs in the State of Qatar.

QU has been a strategic partner to government and industry in preparing specialist professionals and to national aspirations towards a knowledge-based economy, offering a wide number of graduate and undergraduate programs fielding current and emerging issues relevant to Qatar and the Gulf.

Serving over 15000 students, the organization provides a teaching and learning environment enhanced by top-rate faculty, facilities, resources, and student-driven services that enhance academic performance and produce quality student outcomes.

The organization continues to develop and implement new initiatives to bolster student performance, motivation and success.   Of particular note is its academic advising efforts that are led by a dedicated Academic Advising and Retention Unit and implemented throughout QU colleges.  This forms part of the organization’s growth strategy which puts each student’s interests at the heart of its plans by helping to guide their decisions on what course of study to pursue, channeling their future career aspirations, supporting the improvement of their learning skills, and so advancing their competitiveness as students, and later as graduates in the labor market.

Research is an integral part of the academic environment at QU.  It is bolstered by an ambitious 5-year roadmap addressing national priorities, a state-of-the-art Research Complex and 12 research centers of excellence, tackling topics such as marine environment conservation, road safety, gas processing, and national surveys, to name a few.

The organization prides itself on its strong bonds with the community and supports its needs and aspirations through a number of outreach programs including many targeting youth in K-12 education with the view to preparing them as Qatar’s future leaders.
