NACADA offers conferences, Institutes, web events and seminars to provide quality professional development opportunities for advisors, faculty advisors, administrators, and students who are invested in helping higher education students achieve academic success.

Conferences provide opportunities to learn in general sessions from experts in the field, gain knowledge and review best practices with colleagues in concurrent sessions, and participate in interactive workshops. The variety of learning formats also may include poster sessions, exhibitor presentations, and formal and informal networking opportunities.

Building on the Annual Conference which began over 40 years ago, NACADA also offers yearly Academic Advising, Administrators', Assessment, and Research Institutes, ten Region Conferences, area drive-ins, and web events. A short description of NACADA's events is given below.

  • Annual Conference

    The Annual Conference offers a broad range of presentations (theoretical, practical, and interactive) which focus on critical academic advising issues. Session formats include preconference workshops; concurrent and poster presentations; round table discussions; and exhibits.

    Region Conferences provide academic advisors, academic advising administrators, and faculty advisors throughout each region an opportunity for networking, discussion of issues, and professional development. Typically, these three-day events include preconference workshops, general sessions, concurrent and poster presentations, and networking activities.

  • Administrators’ Institute

    The highly successful NACADA Administrators' Institute provides strategies to enhance leadership skills and to manage an academic advising program on your campus! The Institute will utilize learning community groups facilitated by Institute faculty who are experienced advising administrators and leaders in the field. You will be asked to select your track when you register for the event to ensure we place you in the correct Work Group.

    Assessment of academic advising is essential for a successful and effective academic advising program on any campus. This working Institute will be an intensive two and a half days focused on the components of a successful assessment program as well as specific strategies and tools for developing and implementing assessment programs on your campus.

    Previously Summer Institute

    Student growth, persistence, and campus vitality - all are linked to academic advising and influenced by programs and policies that advisors help deliver or administer. Many campuses have failed to provide effective strategies to implement the critical changes necessary for high quality advising. The Institute is designed to assist participants in developing such strategies and programs.

    A Web Event is a live event presented via the Internet. NACADA Zoom Web Events focus on topics of importance to academic advisors and advising administrators. All Zoom presenters/panelists are actively involved in academic advising on their campuses.
